DING DONG, AL-ZARQAWI IS DEAD

Filed under: War and Peace — semi @ 4:21 pm

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has been blown up. Great. The Administration apologists will be all over the talk shows insisting that this is a “turning point” in Iraq. (As The Washington Post pointed out, there have been at least nine other turning points in the last three years. If this is counted as the tenth turning point, one could argue that Iraq has turned so many times that it’s now heading back in the same direction from which it came).

The site of U.S. troops picking their way through a demolished shack looking for DNA samples isn’t exactly raising the flag at Iwo Jima, but it’ll do. I say this is an excellent opportunity for the White House to hang up a big “mission accomplished” sign and bring our troops home.

But Bill was always smart, and for the brief time that I had HBO again, I would regularly watch Real Time with Bill Maher. (My HBO is gone, but audio to the show is now available as an iTunes Podcast.)

Now Bill has done something really interesting: (more…)

PARALLEL AL

My friends and I have frequently joked (???) for the past few years that we all somehow slid into a parallel universe after the 2000 elections and somewhere in the positive matter universe, our proud nation was being led by an intelligent and benevolent Al Gore.

SNL-Gore.jpgThis weekend, I heard President Gore on NPR’s Fresh Air and discovered that he had recently done an SNL skit on that very premise. Yes, this had probably been all over the internet the past few weeks and I just missed it. If you did too, you can catch the video at Crooks and Liars.com.
